Performance differences of different types of brakes

The performance differences of different types of brakes are mainly reflected in braking force, heat dissipation, cost, applicable scenarios and so on.
1, drum brake
Performance characteristics: simple structure and low cost.
The braking force is large, which conforms to the traditional design concept. For heavy-duty vehicles, the brake shoe has a high durability when the speed is not high.
The heat dissipation is poor, and the braking performance is easily affected by high temperature. When braking for a long time or frequently, the braking performance will decline.
Working principle: It is composed of brake drum, brake shoe, return spring and other parts. When braking, the brake shoe expands in the brake drum and contacts with the inner wall to generate friction to realize braking.

2, the disc brake
Performance characteristics:
Quick response, excellent heat dissipation, and timely response to the driver's braking needs.
The braking performance is stable, thermal recession is not easy to occur, and the braking process is linear, which can bring a more stable braking feeling to the driver.
The structure is relatively simple, which is convenient for maintenance and replacement of brake pads.
The cost is relatively high.
Working principle: It is composed of brake disc, brake caliper, brake pad, etc. The brake disc is exposed and the brake caliper is fixed. When braking, the piston in the brake caliper pushes the brake pad to clamp the brake disc to generate friction braking.

3, ventilated disc brake
Performance characteristics:
Heat dissipation is faster, with ventilation holes in the middle, and the weight is lighter.
It can keep the performance better during braking, and it can work stably even in the face of high load braking.
Application scenario: It is commonly used on the four wheels of high-performance sports cars and racing cars, especially the front wheels, to meet the high requirements of these vehicles for braking performance.

4, other types of brakes
External block brake: simple and reliable structure, good heat dissipation, but small wrap angle and braking torque, complex manufacturing process, complex lever system and large overall size, suitable for frequent work and large space.
Belt brake: simple and compact structure, large wrap angle and large braking torque, but the brake axle is subjected to large bending force, and the specific pressure and wear of the brake belt are uneven.
